Not only will you need a good one, but also something that will adapt well to the indoor conditions. I do not want you to make the same mistake that I did and get just any shoe out there. This is why in order to help you, today I will be talking about the best indoor gym climbing shoes out there.
Best Indoor Climbing Shoes:
- La Sportiva Men’s Tarantula Beginner Rock Climbing Shoe.
- La Sportiva Men’s Miura Climbing Shoe.
- La Sportiva Mythos Climbing Shoe.
1. La Sportiva Men’s Tarantula Beginner Rock Climbing Shoe:
The majority of people who are into gym climbing tend to be beginners, and I personally believe that you as a beginner climber do not need to spend a lot of money of your climbing shoes at first. The La Sportiva Men’s Tarantula Beginner Rock Climbing Shoe is one of the best budget-friendly shoes for gym climbing. It doesn’t contain any sort of extra stuff, because that would rather add to the price tag. However, that is nothing to worry about because quality and performance are not hampered whatsoever.
Strap It Up:
The shoes look a bit distinct in comparison to most climbing shoes and that is because of their closure system. To make it easier for beginners, the shoe features velcro straps that will not only make the shoe super easy to wear but also keep you comfortable.
Making a climbing shoe for beginners in gym climbing is very complicated. Especially when it comes to determining the shape of the shoe. To make sure the shoe aces at performance, it needs to be a bit aggressive. However, too much downturn would have made the shoe uncomfortable for the wearer. Nonetheless, in this case, La Sportiva has hit the right spot and has designed the shoe in such a way that it hampers neither comfort nor the performance. The Tarantula is designed in an asymmetrical way and will help young climbers to develop their skills over time. I would say these shoes are fairly a bit more aggressive than other beginner shoes on the market and that is because it does not feature a flat profile.
The Tarantula features an unlined suede leather upper that works very well with the closure system to provide a nice and snug fit. Even though the upper might feel a bit hard at first, once it breaks in you will be good to go. The manner to which the leather stretches over time is just spectacular. As I mentioned before, the Tarantula is not a flat based shoe, the shoe features something called Frixion Rs rubber that provides good grip under the shoe and also makes it more durable. In addition, the stiffness will also good support and stability if you ever decide to do some vertical climbing.
- Easy to wear.
- Provides a very good fit.
- Ideal for beginner gym climbers.
- Not too aggressive.
2. La Sportiva Men’s Miura Climbing Shoe:
The Tarantula is a very famous and well-known shoe in the climbing circle, and so are most shoes from La Sportiva. The La Sportiva Men’s Miura Climbing Shoe does and will always stand out. And that is because, in the mix of many different climbing shoes made for different climbing aspects, the Miura is a shoe that will be able to handle it all with sheer ease.
It does not matter what type of climbing style you prefer or where you will be climbing, the Miura will be able to handle it all. Because of its slightly downturned shape, it allows the shoe to get the freedom of performing well and maintaining stability on all sorts of terrain, especially on overhung positions.
Being La Sportiva’s signature shoe, it features the well known Vibram XS edged rubber sole. This rubber outsole provides good stickiness to the shoe in addition to maintaining durability. The rubber is not at all lightweight or thinned out, but rather provides good protection and will protect your feet at all times, no matter how jammed or tight the rocks might be. Being a considerably compact shoe, it handles pockets and cracks finely as well.
It doesn’t matter if you are gym climbing or doing any other sort of climbing, hooking will be crucial under all aspects. Your climbing shoe must be able to do hooking very well. Fortunately, hooking is something that the Miura aces in, thanks to the thick rubber patch that will protect your toes and also assist with additional grip while hooking. It takes quite a bit of something to be one of the best shoes from La Sportiva. And as a result, the performance is something the Miura does not sacrifice in. All the different aspects of the shoe make it very good at precision, hooking, edging and you name it.
However, one slight issue that we found here is that the shoe feels a bit too smooth and sleek out of the box. As good as it might have been for normal shoes, when it comes to climbing shoes this affects the smearing. Nonetheless, that didn’t seem to be much of a problem because once the shoe broke in properly everything was back to being normal.
- Excellent performer.
- Ideal for gym climbing
- The fit might be a bit too tight much for some climbers.
3. La Sportiva Mythos Climbing Shoe:
Many climbers often complain that climbing shoes are not comfortable enough and cause severe discomfort on long climbing sessions. This is something that I completely agree with, but the thing is there isn’t anything that can be done about it. Because they are not made for being comfortable. Nonetheless, if you are looking for a gym climbing shoe that is comfortable then there is nothing to worry about. Something like the La Sportiva Mythos would suit well according to your preference,
The Main Focus:
While on other models, La Sportiva gives their all to make them the best performing climbing shoes out there, especially for indoor climbing, with the Mythos they have changed that. While it still manages to perform excellently well, the main focus of this shoe is in its comfort level. Each and every component on this shoe is there to enhance the overall comfortability of the shoe. The upper is made from a very soft material that will allow your feet to stay comfy all the time. There is also an in tongue lining that controls the moisture inside and helps to enhance the breathability of the shoe.
As I mentioned before, the Mythos despite being superbly comfortable does not sacrifice a bit when it comes to performance. Thanks to the classic Vibram sole that almost all of La Sportiva’s shoe sport, despite having a soft upper the solid and sturdy bottom underneath helps a great deal helping you to climb comfortably without any pain. The Mythos will also fit very well to the shape of your foot, because of the soft leather upper that molds nicely according to the wearer’s feet.
More Than What You Think:
Many of you out there might think that this is just something fancy and won’t really come of much help. If you are someone who thinks like that then you are absolutely wrong, because the Mythos is something much more than that. Starting from the upper, the fit with decent smearing and good performance on edging and bouldering this shoe can do a lot. In addition, the comfort just adds as a bonus. However, you would want to give it some time for it to break in first and after that, you will be able to get the best use of it.
- Very well made.
- The upper stretches very nicely.
- Provides the perfect mix of comfort and performance.
- Lacks precision on edges.
